Description

Chronic GI disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease, reflux, etc are frequent concerns addressed in doctor’s offices throughout the United States. Unfortunately, most people dealing with IBS see a medical doctor (usually their general practitioner or a gastroenterologist); these doctors usually suggest highly restricted diets. While that can help some people short term, it leads to increasing fear of food, social isolation, avoidance and worsening distress and disability. Most people who suffer from these ailments have no idea that a specific variant of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT - a type of evidence based psychotherapy) can actually be extremely helpful. In fact, CBT is one of the only effective treatments for IBS. Please join Dr. Melissa G. Hunt, Department of Psychology, University of Pennsylvania, who has made it her life’s work to develop treatments for IBS and IBD, and put those treatments into empirically supported self-help workbooks so that more people can benefit, as she discusses an alternative approach in helping those who suffer from gastrointestinal disorders find a healthy balance in their lives. This program is free and open to the public and will be held via ZOOM (ZOOM link will be emailed to registered attendees).
