Description

Everyone can use their creativity to make change. Let this program spark your imagination! This special evening program explores Martin Luther King Jr.’s activism through the lens of creativity. Join the Anacostia Community Museum for a lively lecture from Roach Brown - longtime advocate for criminal justice reform and prolific playwright. This program will also feature slam poetry from incarcerated youth in the D.C. Jail and musical performances by guest psalmist Tia Singleton. Light refreshments will be served. About Roach Brown: Experiencing solitary confinement at Lorton Reformatory in 1968, Brown put his pain into poetry and started a theatre troupe that would later tour the country (including our museum) dispelling stereotypes about incarcerated people and advocating for better conditions. Today, Brown still advocates for criminal justice reform as the host of a weekly radio show on WPFW called “Crossroads.”
