The Botanic Book Club is starting the New Year off with Richard Powers’ Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Overstory. The story unfolds and expands like a forest canopy to take in the lives of nine diverse Americans who are ultimately linked by the impact of trees on their lives and a growing desire to fight for the future of our natural world. Along the way, we’ll learn about trees — their life cycles, their cooperative (and competitive) interactions, and the ways they’ve impacted human history.
The Washington Post called The Overstory “the most exciting novel about trees you’ll ever read” and said Powers “demonstrates a remarkable ability to tell dramatic, emotionally involving stories while delving into subjects many readers would otherwise find arcane.”
The Overstory is currently being adapted for a video limited series by Netflix.
