Join us for a day of double reed fun! Kim Woolly, bassoon, and Galit Kaunitz, oboe, will host the USM Double Reed Workshop on Saturday, February 25, 2023, on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. All middle school and high school double reed players from beginner to advanced levels are invited to attend! We will welcome special guests Leah Forsyth, oboe, and Douglas Bakenhus, bassoon, (faculty at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA) to share their artistry and expertise. Double Reed Workshop events will include master classes, performances, special topics sessions including information on reed adjusting and caring for your instruments, and a final concert with all participants in a double reed ensemble! Chemical City Reeds will be on site to help you with all of your double reed needs. If you are a high school senior you may audition for the University of Southern Mississippi School of Music while attending the Double Reed Workshop. Saturday, February 26:  10:00-10:30 Opening concert  10:45-11:30 Bassoon maintenance with Steve Koivisto/oboe master class 11:30-12:15 Oboe maintenance with Steve Koivisto/bassoon master class 12:15-1:00 Lunch/shop vendor booth  1:00-2:00 Reed adjusting/reed making  2:15-3:15 Double reed ensemble rehearsal  3:30-4:00 Final concert Lunch will be provided.
