JOLIET, IL — A 47-year-old Joliet man became angry with his wife on Christmas, punching her in the eye and grabbing his gun, pacing inside their house, threatening to end her life, Joliet police reports show.
On Wednesday night, Joliet police booked Deddrick Jones into the Will County Jail on charges of domestic battery and aggravated assault. A warrant had been issued for Jones' arrest.
Back on Christmas night, Joliet squad cars rolled up to Jones' house in the 200 block of Oneill Street for a domestic violence call. A woman in the house told police her husband had beat her, police reports show.
"Jones threatened to strike the victim with a child's toy that he was holding," Joliet police reports show. "Jones went to a back room of the residence and returned to the living room holding a handgun and began pacing back and forth, verbally threatening to kill the victim."
According to police, Jones did not point the gun at his wife, but he struck "the victim in the eye with a closed fist while she sat in the living room. The victim then went into a bedroom and Jones fled the residence before Officers arrived," reports show.
On Wednesday, after a judge signed a warrant for his arrest, police arrived at Jones' house on Oneill Street and took him away in handcuffs.
Jones spent 24 hours in the Will County Jail, before posting 10 percent of his $40,000 bail to regain his freedom, logs show.
