In 2022, Valley Self-Defense took part in the Tap Cancer Out Global Grappling Day where our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students rolled for one hour to raise funds for cancer research. We enjoyed it so much we decided to choose an organization once a quarter and support them with a one hour roll!
For our first roll, Lead Instructor and two-stripe white belt Peter Eisenberg chose The Link and here's why:
"Because it is the little things in life that matter. We can help provide some things for homeless youth that we take for granted, like a nice pair of jeans. Anything we can do to provide a safe place for homeless youth to be or give any sense of normalcy will help. I believe all people and all kids should have a right to housing, health care, a job, or the access to gain experience and feel safe is important."
This one hour roll will help our unhoused neighbors during the coldest time of year!
The Link works with youth and young families to overcome the impacts of poverty and social injustice.
The Link's 28 programs provide supportive housing, intensive case management services, and skills development to youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness, sex trafficking and/or involvement in the juvenile justice system.
The Link prides itself on its innovative, youth-centered, strengths-based programming for youth and families as well as programs that are co-designed, implemented and overseen by youth.
