Description

Zoom Link The primary purposes of ADLA are to develop a full partnership between the ELCA and the African Descent community through evangelism, worship and social ministry, to provide a vehicle to unify and convey the needs and concerns of the African Descent members of the ELCA throughout all of its existing expressions, and to Help assure that each individual, made in the image of God, will be respected as a unique gift to the church and the community. This chapter seeks to provide a conduit to the Metro NY Synod for the expression of contributions and concerns of Lutherans of African Descent, to identify and promote the training of persons of African Descent for clergy and lay leadership, and to foster a better understanding of, and appreciation for, the unique culture and heritage people of African descent bring to the church. The Metro NY Chapter enjoys the support of this Synod’s Bishop in many of its activities, the most prominent of which is the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. commemorative service held in January each year and at which scholarships are awarded to seminarians, diakonia students and other persons studying for lay leadership. Meetings are held bi-monthly March, June, September and the Annual Meeting in November. Other ADLA Chapters are in Philadelphia, California, Cleveland, Delaware-Maryland, North Carolina, Chicago, and Las Vegas. We join with our brothers and sisters as members of the National African Descent Association. As such, we pledge our support to National ADLA to further the goals of the organization on a local as well as a national level.
