Description
Hey all, just moved to town and looking for like minded folks to collaborate with.
I've been in country rock bands (https://calbertblomquist.bandcamp.com/album/c-albert-blomquist), (https://colinsneed.bandcamp.com/album/diane-ep) skronky noise rock projects (https://charlieisgnarly.bandcamp.com/album/kelleys-girls), play some of my own singer songwriter music (https://coloroptions.bandcamp.com/album/brow-beat-out-here-shining), and have recorded, done studio work in, and played with all sorts of psych-rock, psych-folk, indie rock, folk, punk, pop-punk, etc. bands throughout the years. I'm good for:
- Elec guitar
- Acoustic guitar (6, 12, classical, dobro)
- Vocals (would LOVE to get some harmonies happening!)
- Pedal steel guitar
- Bass
- Drums (though I don't have any gear)
- Keys (if I need to)
- Audio engineering (record/mix/master)
Rather than just rattling a bunch of artists off as touch points, here are some things I like in music that it'd be cool to aspire to, and I'll give some examples if there are great ones:
Commanding attention through care and understatement rather than bombast most of the time, especially in a "rock" band (Velvet Underground, Trad, Gras Och Stenar, UK folk-rock Fairportish stuff) | Song-oriented music that still surprises, but in sneaky and subtle ways (sometimes it's cool to cut a section a beat short) | Playing music rather than talking about it as much as possible | A good ol' gut wrenching chord change with the right melody over it | Repetition (krautrock, kosmische, Terry Riley) | Well-placed improvisation that isn't noodling | "Tearing open" the next section of a tune, rather than just barrelling into it (bands like Deerhoof do this really well) | Making funny music, but not goofy music
Let me know if this sounds up your alley. Cheers and take care!
