Black women are 3-to-4 times more likely than other women to die in childbirth or experience chronic health conditions after giving birth. And their surviving babies are 2-to-3 times more likely than other babies to die before they’re 1-year-old. The CDC, National Institutes of Health, Mayo Clinic, and other authoritative bodies acknowledge that this crisis in Black communities results from racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare (i.e., unconscious bias and racism).
Sister-to-Sister: International Network of Professional African American Women, Inc., an IRS tax-exempt public charity invites you to join us for our private screening of “Aftershock”, an award-winning documentary co-produced by Tonya Lewis Lee, the wife of Spike Lee. The documentary highlights this healthcare crisis through the lens of Black families, who have lost loved ones.
The film’s screening will be followed by an interactive discussion facilitated by renowned Colorado physician, Ms. Sheila Davis, M.D., former Director of the Colorado Office of Health Disparities.
Refreshments sponsored by The Renée Crown Wellness Institute, University of Colorado - Boulder.
