Description

Hello everyone! This is Herbie, A 47-year-old yellow napes Amazon parrot. His longtime owner recently passed away and I inherited him,I do enjoy having him around but wanted to try and find him a good home where he could live out the rest of his days. Only doing this because I’m not home often enough to give him the attention he deserves. He’s an old man bird and ready to enjoy the simple life. He’s a chill little guy, honestly a pretty lazy bird lol but that’s probably because he’s a tad overweight and older. Hes not a loud squawker at all, he would probably do great in a condo or town home environment even since he doesn’t scream periodically like most parrots. Once he gets to know you he happily hops onto your fingers when asked and will chatter when you talk to him. For the most part he just likes to hangout on top of his cage,he doesn’t ask for much. He wants to try just about any human food you’re having,I have a hard time convincing him that he needs to eat just the bird food he’s offered. He’s big into trying new foods (that are safe for birds of course). He’s lived in a home with several dogs for 30 years and has been exposed to dogs at my home and cats as well. He seems to not mind either species. I do not think he would be best fit in a home with small children just because he is an older bird and has never been around small children. He’s not gonna be a bird that small kids can just play around with and antagonize. I don’t want the environment to be stressful for him. He’s safe with me until he finds a good fit. I’m looking for someone WITH experience owning larger birds. And that has a good understanding of beak and nail trims,as well as general knowledge of bird husbandry. I’ve been doing his beak and nails trims for 3 years now at the animal hospital I work for and would be happy to continue that services should you decide he needs it. He is entirely flightless,he hasn’t had his wings clipped at all in the 30yrs he was with his previous owners that had him and they’ve never seen him take flight. This could be in part to how chunky he is,he just can’t take off because of his weight maybe. That’s my best guess. Herbie will come with all the food I have for him,his travel cage and his larger bird cage. (That will need to be picked up because it doesn’t fit in my car). There is a rehoming fee to ensure his safe placement. But for someone with good experience with birds, and proof of it,I would be willing to let him go for free. He deserves to live out his years with a knowledgeable owner as he progresses throughout his geriatric age. I’m wanting to find him a good home with people because he’s never not lived with people. Seems kinda unfair to him. But if I can’t find him a good situation then he will be moving to a sanctuary for parrots,i just wanted to take a stab at finding him an actual family to live with before I did all that. Thanks for reading! Please reach out to me via text message or email. You can text anytime of day and I’ll respond as soon as possible. -Lisa
