About 12 years ago back when they had a personals section I answered an ad on here written by a woman on the upper east side looking to meet up and make out. She added “if you have glasses that’s a plus…I have a thing for nerdy guys ”. Not expecting anything I replied with my picture. She replied back “you have a classic nerd look, like Paul from the Wonder Years” and she asked me how long it would take for me to get from where I was in Brooklyn to her, while also refusing to supply her own picture “trust me I’m hot” she said. I went anyway, never having done anything like this in my life, and when I arrived I called her. “I forgot to mention this but I only have one arm” At this point her brazenness and sense of adventure was more exciting to me than anything else; and she was bluffing even though it wouldn’t have mattered to me. She was really attractive though, and I couldn’t believe she was into me! We had a drink, shared a cigarette and in 30 mins she had me in her bed. It was one of the best nights of my life:) Of course, I never saw her again, but I hadn’t expected anything. The experience saved my life; I was still reeling after a horrible breakup with someone and it was first and only time I experienced some version of heart break. I felt broken and emasculated and I did not understand why. I’d never put much stock in masculinity before, I hated it and resented being made to feel “less of a man”…”less of something I never wanted and wished I could disavow completely. You’ve got to understand, for a sexy woman to step forth and say “you, I want you.” like that meant a LOT. It was much more meaningful than a one night stand! I wish I could meet her one more time just so I could tell her how much she helped me! Thank you Melissa!
