Crotalaria, or showy rattlebox, and caesarweed are plants that are not native to Florida and can be potentially harmful to the environment. Volunteers are needed to hand pull these invasive plants at The Nature Conservancy's Disney Wilderness Preserve.
All volunteers are required to register. The group may be transported on the preserve in an open air vehicle which requires large steps to get in and out. Volunteers are expected to help hand pull the plants by bending down and uprooting individual plants, while walking on uneven, unpaved ground. Weather conditions are unpredictable and may be hot, sunny, humid, rainy, or windy, so come prepared accordingly!
Volunteers need to:
- wear closed toed shoes and pants
- bring their own water and snacks
- be prepared with bug and sun protection
- bring work gloves if they're able (some can be provided by The Nature Conservancy)
