The movie is based on the true story of a serial killer whose crimes took place in Mashad, Iran. Holy Spiders leading actress won the best actress award at this years Cannes Festival, the movie is Denmarks official submission for the Oscars. The movie is in Farsi with English subtitle The movie is aligned with this years Dreamweek theme as it focuses heavily on the challenges women face in Iran, in the work environment, in marriage and society. The main character is a journalist investigating a serial killer while putting her own life at risk to go under cover in a heavily conservative and religious city in Iran. The leading actress, Zar Amir Ebrahimi, was one of the first people to speak against the Iranian regimes oppression on women during her Cannes acceptance speech.
