Of those children,109 were either reunited with their families or found new permanent homes. Our purpose is to provide well-trained community members appointed by a Juvenile Court judge to represent the best interests of an abused or neglected child. EFFECTS ON CHILDREN WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED ABUSE AND NEGLECT:• May affect an individual's physical and mental health directly and indirectly.* • Can cause lifelong issues, including low self-esteem and depression.
