Description
Our first Girls Rock ride of 2023 is nearly here, and we’re looking forward to riding with the ladies of MORCA, who will help guide riders through the stunning trails of Fort Ord! SPECIAL MEETING LOCATION The BLM is offering Girls Rock a ride-start location normally closed to the public. SEE UPDATED DIRECTIONS BELOW. After check-in, we'll have a short overview of the Safe Passages program. We will follow this with our famous raffle and group photo. Then, we'll break into smaller groups by level and ride out to the trails. Bring a hat, warm clothes to change into, snacks and a Thermos of hot tea — so you can stay a moment to ring in the New Year with new friends. SCHEDULE 9:30 am — Check-in, fuel up with coffee & snacks courtesy of MORCA 9:30 — Volunteer guide meeting 9:45 am — Announcements, raffle, group photo 10:00 am — Roll out to trails 12:00 – 2:00pm — Rider return varies by group. Stay and mingle before heading out! LOCATION & DIRECTIONS The BLM is permitting us access to their Work Center, an area closed to the public. This area has a pit toilet and parking, and is about 1 mile inside the park. To get there, you’ll drive to the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery, 2900 Parker Flats Cut Off Rd. A designated volunteer will be waiting nearby between 8:45am and 9:45 am. to point you past a barrier, towards the Work Center. Important Note for all Drivers: Plan to park at the Work Center and leave your vehicle there until your group is finished riding. Because the area we are meeting at is closed to the public, the BLM requests no “ins and outs” for motorists. If you are getting dropped off on 1/14, ask your driver to stop near the Cemetery, and you can ride in. Due to unreliable cell coverage and no ins and outs, plan to meet your driver at the Cemetery parking lot at a designated time. We recommend 2pm. Driving directions to the park (for 1/14 only; this entrance is normally closed to the public): 1. From Hwy 1, exit 406 toward Lightfighter Dr. 2. Right in Gen Jim Moore Blvd. 3. Left on Gigling Rd. 4. Right on Parker Flats Cut Off Rd. 5. Left on Parker Flats Road Signs on road closure barriers will read AUTHORIZED VEHICLES ONLY. Wait in your vehicle at the Cemetery entrance for a volunteer to point you towards the Work Center. IMPORTANT MESSAGES Bonus tip for Beginners who know Ft. Ord: This location is close to 8th & Gigling, which flatter than Creekside. If you're unsure about which level to join, take a look at our Ride Levels page. Get familiar with Safe Passages -- Ft. Ord's trail etiquette campaign and support MORCA -- all on their website. Safety first: Bring your helmet, eye protection, water, jacket, and a mountain bike in good working order Don't be sorry! Bring locks to secure bikes; do not leave valuables unattended Sorry, no demos this month. However, feel free to check with local brands and bike shops if you are shopping for a new ride! Linger post-ride in comfort: Bring a change of (warm) clothes, hot drinks /snacks to enjoy while you mingle outdoors Follow our friends and ride sponsors: Follow @montereyoffroadcycling @rei @clifbar @ospreypacks @bellhelmets_bike on instagram.com; @BellBikeHelmets on facebook.com.
