Description
On Monday, January 23, 2023 at 7:00 PM, the internationally-acclaimed African Children’s Choir will perform a full concert at the First Baptist Church Savannah located on Chippewa Square at 223 Bull Street, Savannah. Coastal Youth Choirs (CYC) is sponsoring the concert featuring children from all over Africa. The young singers ages 9-11 will melt the hearts of audiences with their charming smiles, beautiful voices and lively African songs and dances. The concert is free and open to all. A free-will offering will be taken at the performance to support the education, care and relief, and development programs of the African Children’s Choir. Music for Life (MFL), the parent organization for the African Children’s Choir, invites children from the countries of Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa to audition for the ACC. MFL has educated over 52,000 children and impacted the lives of over 100,000 people through its relief and development programs during its history. By focusing on providing education, MFL helps Africa’s most vulnerable children today, so they can help Africa tomorrow. The African Children’s Choir has had the privilege to perform before presidents, heads of state and most recently Queen Elizabeth II, for her diamond jubilee. The Choir has also had the honor of singing alongside artists Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, Michael W. Smith, and other inspirational performers! “I have been a big fan of the African Children’s Choir ever since I found them on YouTube in 2019,” shares Rebecca Flaherty, CYC Board Member and Music Teacher at Marshpoint Elementary. “When I learned that they were touring the eastern coast of the U.S, I wrote to ask if they would make a stop in Savannah. My fellow CYC Board members and I are thrilled that they have graciously agreed, and furthermore delighted that the African Children’s Choir has invited singers from Coastal Youth Choirs and Marshpoint Elementary Chorus to join them onstage for one song. What an incredible experience this will be for our choristers and all those in attendance!” “We are pleased to offer this concert as a part of our international choir exchange program. The concert attendees will fall in love with African Children’s Choir and their mission for the children of Africa.” explains executive and artistic director Gif Lockley. “We are also pleased the Desoto Hotel, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room, and First Baptist Church Savannah have agreed to offer assistance and sponsorship of the concert.”
