PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To provide guidance and support to 4 teenage girls in the home ages 13-17 and to support their interests and choices so that they may lead fulfilling lives. The purpose is also to direct the facilitation of the interests and choices of the children, and to manage the operation of the household. Your goal as a Foster Parent is to provide skilled care, discipline and nurturing for any child placed in the home, while serious problems are addressed through treatment interventions. You must operate as a parent, a behavior management specialist, a mentor, a guide, a protector, a team member, an advocate, a teacher, a mentor of families, and as a caregiver. This is a big role. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications  Must have at least a High School Diploma/GED with at least 4 year’s experience with kids. However a college degree with years of experience working with children is preferred. ** A valid driver’s license and all background check clearances is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Must be able to assemble and organize complex data and prepare professional quality reports from such data in many varied formats, using computer software, including Microsoft Office.  Thorough knowledge of office procedures  Excellent oral and written communication skills Expected Abilities:  Ability to teach and counsel residents with regards to daily living, planning, and life skills/tasks  Ability to assist residents in a crisis  Ability to problem solve, multi-task, plan, manage time and/or schedules, and be flexible  Ability to cook balanced meals and transport children.  Ability to adhere to a budget, balance daily and weekly money/receipts  Ability to maintain clean, healthy living environment  Ability to utilize good communication skills, especially active listening; complete and write clear, concise documentation  Ability to work as part of a team; accept and give constructive feedback  Ability to develop and maintain professional work boundaries with residents and co-workers  Ability to understand risk and safety management You must also possess the following character traits:  Independence: you must be self-sufficient and resourceful enough to carry out the functions of the position. The position requires you to be adept at decision-making, problem solving and taking initiative with minimal direction from supervisor. You must be able to recognize what needs to be done and to prioritize work with minimal direction from supervisor.  Positive Tone and Morale: You must be able to contribute a positive tone and morale to the workplace in order to perform the functions of the position. You must have a positive and professional attitude toward the residents, toward your coworkers, toward your work and toward the Organization. You must be able work with coworkers as a team player, and you must be willing to help out when problems and emergencies arise.  Empathy: you must be comfortable with yourself and be well-accepted by others and must understand the feelings of others. This character trait is critical in working effectively with our population.
