Has the U.S. government ever agreed...on anything?
By constitutional design, the federal government of the USA has often been split between two political parties. The history of the arrangement was intended to force compromises in the same spirit as the Convention that created the new government in 1787.
In 2023, our federal government will again be divided between the two parties, prompting legislation delays and party polarization. And while voters tell pollsters they want their elected officials to “get things done,” their voting habits tell a different story.
What is the history of a divided government in the USA? What can we expect to see over the next two years based on past experience…and present attitudes?
