Description
We hope you are staying warm this holiday season? On behalf of the Washington West African Center, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance. WAWAC kindly invites you to our 1st annual BIDEWW/STAR ARTS EXHIBITION AND TALENT SHOW scheduled for Friday December 30th 2022 at the NEEMA Church in Everett from 4pm to 7pm. WAWAC's BIDEWW/star after-school program and homework club seeks to create a culturally appropriate fun and new learning environment that fosters social skills, and provides learning opportunities for our kids through exciting structured activities at a culturally appropriate setting for free of charge. It is for parents whose kids need help with homework or to learn other life and social skills and they don't have the time to help them. This is also a platform for West African kids to interact, learn from each other and build their own community. It is available to school-aged children 5 to 13 years old in Snohomish and King County twice a week. For the past year, our counselors/tutors have been working extremely hard to support these kids with their homework, teaching them life and other social skills while giving the parents a much needed break. Most excitingly, the kids were also able to create their own song that dispels Domestic Violence. Since the kids will be out of school for about two weeks for the Mid-Winter Break and the schedules of their parents will not change, we deem it necessary to engage them with different activities during the break including field trips, movie night and this arts exhibition and talent show. An opportunity for them to showcase their arts projects and other skills. This is also a moment for the parents to see what their kids have been working on in the past year! An experience for a jam packed evening of fun with a variety of West African food, a special performance by the Gansango West African Drumming and Dance Group, the WAWAC Bideww Choir, and display of the different arts & talents by the West African kids. In light of the above, we are kindly inviting you to this enlightening fun night where you can learn about West African music, food and culture and most importantly interact with West African families. Hope to see you all there!
