Session Title: How to jump start your IT career Short Description: We will have a panel of hiring managers from the Des Moines area and will be going through commonly asked questions about how to land that first IT job. We will be taking a few questions from the audience if there is time. Bio: Chris Carney Director, Enterprise Security at Dotdash Meredith. Chris is an accomplished Information Security leader with over 20 years of experience in IT and Information Security. Chris is uniquely talented at translating the technical security strategy needs to align with the business goals and objectives and delivering results that help the business win. Kristi O'Brien Senior Account Executive – Information Technology at Palmer Group. Kristi O’Brien has been providing IT talent solutions to businesses in the Des Moines area for over 15 years. She started her college coursework at DMACC in 1999 and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Management Information Systems. After graduation, she started her career with a local, Des Moines company as a computer programmer. Eager to explore the country, she took an opportunity in sales for a national company. In 2007, she learned about a great opportunity to get back into IT at Palmer Group and couldn’t pass it up! She is as passionate about helping people as she is about technology. She provides her clients with IT talent solutions that include staff augmentation, direct hire placement and managed services. Her goal is to connect IT professionals and grow their careers with a mission to make lives better. In her spare time, Kristi enjoys spending time with her family and instructing group fitness classes. Lisa Butler Director of Technology Solutions at Data Innovations. Lisa has been in the information technology field for 15+ years in the healthcare and financial services industries. She has developed knowledge and skills from her various technical roles including data analytics, application support and development, and most recently information security. She has an associate in liberal art from DMACC and a bachelor of science degree in Information Systems from Upper Iowa University. She resides in a suburb of the capital city of Des Moines, IA with her husband Riley, daughter Ella (14), daughter Maci (11), son Ryker(6), and 9 year old shetland sheepdog, Denver. In her spare time (when not busy with kids activities :) ), you’ll find her running marathons, biking, attending hot yoga, traveling to new places or reading a good book. Greg Lagan Vice President of Sales at Paragon IT Professionals. Greg has been with Paragon for 7 years and specializes in the placement and career growth of IT professionals in IA, NE, MN & AZ. He has over 9 years of experience in the field and is a graduate of the University of Iowa.
