The National Council of Negro Women, Inc - Capital Area Section (NCNW-CAS) of Raleigh, NC is a proud to host our 19th Annual Harambee Women's of Excellence Awards Luncheon recognizing "Black History Month" and honoring one's service in the community. Our theme for this year is "Empowered Women: Advocating For Our Community". In these unprecedent time, we have seen the challenges and need increase in our community. Harambee which is a celebration of a Community and Togetherness that was started in Kenya in 1963, gives us an opportunity to put it into practice. This event is our signature fundraiser to support our outreach programs in the greater Raleigh community.
Our guest speaker is Marchell Adams-David, Raleigh City Manager. We will be honoring Wanda McCargo, Community Development & Grassroots Advocate; Terry Spicer, Health & Healing; and Jacqueline Tibbs, Stars in STEAM.
The National Council of Negro Women was established in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune for the mission to advance the opportunities and the quality of life for African American women, their families and communities. The Capital Area Section was founded in February 1999 under the leadership of Christine B . Jones and Frances Bethea Grant. Our local community outreach programs include Salvation Army, Wake County Women's Center, Loaves and Fishes, MATCH, Shirley Shears Men's Empowerment Center and Raleigh Rescue Mission as well as other service projects.
The National Council of Negro Women, Inc Capital Area Section is a 501(c)(3) organization. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the mission and continuous work of the NCNW-CAS of North Carolina.
