So boom. Join me on Jan 1st, 2023 in Highland Park, MI to share in keeping this ancestral tradition. I’m hosting this event as both a community celebration and a fundraiser. The proceeds of your food purchases go towards financing my 2023 trip to Cameroon along with a group of chefs lead by James Beard Award winning writer and culinary historian, Michael Twitty. This will be the 5th African country I have traveled to with Twitty and fellows. These trips inform my work as the cook and curator of Indigo Culinary co as well as ½ of the team that stewards the land at theJOYproject. Collecting, recording, archiving and sharing the foodways and culture of the African Diaspora is the core of my work and these trips provide an educational opportunity for me that no google search or library collection can replicate.
You can pre order and take your food back to the comfort of your home, trading the time and labor of cooking for a drive to and from Highland Park. Or you can stay and hang out a while. Begin the new year with movement, dancing to some good tunes; activate your creator spirit by taking part in some crafts, venerate the ancestors and leave offerings for the spirits and elements that support us in this universe at our communal altar, AND activate that New Year’s luck by participating in a raffle for black eyed pea themed curios
