With the help of a resident expert, it's time to uncover the story and legacy of these historic towns like never before. Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive two-mile guided stroll, tour, and exploration of historic Irvington & Tarrytown, NY — including mansions, estates, and landmarks along the Old Croton Aqueduct, New York City’s first water supply system built between 1837 and 1842. Led by a member of the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct, our stroll through the estates of Irvington will include:   A brief discussion around the Croton Aqueduct and its importance to the growth of NYCA chance to go inside the gold-leafed Tiffany Reading Room in downtown Irvington, which is usually closed on weekendsStops along the trail to point out historic sites and structures including Lyndhurst Mansion, the former Jay Gould estate,  and Villa Lewaro, home of Madam C. J. Walker — one of the first female self-made millionaires in the United StatesRare access on to the private grounds of the Belvedere Estate, which was originally built for the famous journalist and sports writer Caspar WhitneyA trip inside the Irvington Historical Society located at the historic McVickar House  This relatively flat stroll (with periods of uneven terrain) should take around three hours, so please bring comfortable shoes, water, and snacks. Food/snacks to bring on the stroll can be found in the town of Irvington, our first and last stop on the stroll. Irvington Public Library is across the street from the train station.
