Description
Fruit Salad, Dorothy's monthly queer open mic night hits the road and lands at the Museum of Contemporary Art this January as a bonus show of queer art & community! Hosted by Rainn and co-produced by Whitney LaMora, this open mic night gives ten performers the chance to share their work in front of our supportive & gorgeous group of attendees before we hand it over to our feature performer of the night. Our open mic sign up is based on a lottery system! Attendees will get a link immediately after purchasing a ticket to sign up for the open mic until Sunday January 8th. Five open mic slots are reserved for BIPOC performers and the other five slots are open for all submissions. Our open mic list will be announced via our Instagram @fruitsaladchicago. After our open mic for the evening, we welcome our featured for the month - Kenya Élan! Kenya Élan (She/Her) is a queer, writer and stand-up comedian based in Chicago. Sharp and dynamic, the unexpected chaos she brings to the stage has made her a stand out in the Chicago comedy scene. Kenya is the co-creator of “It Will Be Okay?: An Outdoor Comedy Show” and “Late Nite Dynamite" and is also a featured player at Lincoln Lodge. Follow her @kenya_elan on all social media platforms. Entry is $12 and proceeds are shared with the performers, the production team, our home base Dorothy and our giveback partner for this month chosen by Kenya: Chicago Community Jail Support. (and the MCA will match!) Chicago Community Jail Support is a daily, on the ground, grassroots mutual aid project run completely by volunteers. Our mission is to assist anyone being released from Cook County Jail, their loved ones, and the surrounding community. We focus on providing direct aid that meets the immediate needs of those being released with phone calls, warm clothing, snacks, drinks, PPE, safe transportation home, and emergency housing. Doors for the evening open at 5:30pm and our show starts at 6pm. Performers should arrive by 5:45pm at the latest and check in with our host to be guaranteed their slot. Our feature follows after intermission. Plan to get here early or stay after - the MCA is FREE on Tuesdays for IL residents so please spend some time in the galleries before the show, or stick around after - the MCA is open til 9pm! This Fruit Salad is ALL AGES with the understanding that our show generally is appropriate for 18+. All attendees will be asked to show physical ID with any alcohol purchase. NOTE: Refund requests for Fruit Salad are given until 12pm the day of the show. Tickets sold outside of Eventbrite are not accepted for entry. No tickets, no waitlist at the door.
