My name is Matt (he/him) and I’ve started a band with a drummer and a bassist (Julien and Liam). I need another musician to fill in some voices alongside my synths and keyboards. I've drafted 5 songs for us to work through (home demos are available on request). I’d like us to play some shows in Detroit, and maybe record when the time comes. I’ve been playing in bands for over ten years, but have only recently started taking singing seriously, so bear with me as I develop that skill (I'm open to singers as well). We all have recording and performance experience.
Prior to getting this band together, I was focused on electronic music, but I’ve been gravitating towards writing songs for a band. It’s coming out as a sort of New Wavey, songwriter haunt sound, backed by a strong rhythmic foundation. Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of Stooges, Velvet Underground, and Duke Ellington, but my biggest influences are probably Joy Division, krautrock, and groups like the Raincoats. I also like the revival of that music with bands like Preoccupations, Women, black midi, Shame, Protomartyr…
I’m hoping to find someone with a fondness for melodic playing. I’m pretty open to experimentation, so long as it’s satisfying. We’ll practice to either learn a new batch of songs, or to get tight before a show. I’d love to play with any musician interested in the material ( keys, singers, strings, brass, picolos etc).
We have a dangerously funky rhythm section. Both of them are excellent groovekeepers. I played with Julien in a previous band, and Liam when I was younger. Liam is seriously like a pro level bassist, he's really good.
We’re in our twenties, but your attitude is most important. I have zero tolerance for your bull: racism, xenophobia, and troglodytic inclinations of all kinds will be kicked the curb!
