Aragon student Felipe Chavez's death last month is a wake-up call for our community that we need to talk about mental health and suicide.
This Thursday (Dec. 22nd), I will be hosting an open mic in sponsorship with the National Alliance for Mental Illness of San Mateo County to raise awareness about mental health and honor Felipe and the other beloved community members that we’ve lost this year. The open mic will be around sharing personal or familial stories of mental illness and suicide. If you are someone who has been touched by a mental illness, I invite you to come and listen and, if you feel empowered to do so, share your story. Or else, please come simply to show your love and support for Yanneth, Felipe’s mother, who may share her story at the event. With the holidays around the corner, now is the time that we support those in our community who may be feeling sad or alone by both listening and speaking up.
If you prefer, you can also participate in this event anonymously or asynchronously by filling out this form here.

Who's organizing?
Hi, I'm Charlotte! I'm a Nueva High School student and resident of San Mateo County. I love people and finding ways to bring humans together—hence, why I run The Community Photobooth. As someone who lost a family member to suicide, I understand the importance of ending the stigma around mental illness. Come to the open mic, and I'll tell you my story.
