Join us at the Carver Museum ATX for our Kwanzaa Ujaama Marketplace & Celebration on Thursday, December 29th! We're excited to host an outdoor marketplace featuring Black vendors from 12PM-4PM, followed by a program with Elizabeth Kahura leading educational, fun, music and dance activities from 6:30PM - 8:30PM in the Boyd Vance Theatre. Ujaama "cooperative economics" is the principle celebrated on the 4th day of Kwanzaa.
Elizabeth Kahura is a native of Kenya, Africa. Living in the United States since 1995, she has shared the African beat with audiences of all ages through the African Safari program. As a teacher, storyteller and performer Elizabeth strives to educate and engage her audience through storytelling, puppetry, music, language arts, and hands-on art projects. Schools, libraries, museums, and festivals enjoy her inspirational countenance, her displays of African artifacts, and her ability to build a bridge of understanding by demonstrating the similarities between cultures and traditions of Africa and the world. Concepts like the power to dream, character development, and self-empowerment come to life during the performances.
