Sankofa Innovation (SI) exposes youth, communities, educational institutions, organizations, and businesses to the power of design thinking. As defined by Tim Brown (former CEO and president of design company IDEO), design thinking is a mindset and approach to problem-solving and innovation anchored around human-centered design. SI examines the past and the present to help form a better future. The Sankofa bird symbolizes the Akan people’s quest for knowledge. The quest is based on critical examination, intelligence, and patient investigation. Our innovation, design consulting, and education firm was formed to evangelize design thinking by using it to assist companies, communities, and educational institutions in improving their services, processes, and overall execution. SI also educates youth on the power of design thinking. SI seeks to expose this framework to youth in underserved communities. “It is ultra important to provide our youth the fundamental skills needed to be successful today and in the future. Teaching them coding and other hard skills is wonderful, but it is not enough. There is an entire world before the actual coding starts, and beyond.
