Mike Dockry, Assistant Professor for tribal natural resource management at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Forest Resources. Professor Dockry will discuss his research and teaching related to strengthening tribal sovereignty, addressing tribal environmental issues, and incorporating Indigenous knowledge into forestry.
Mike will discuss a tribal-university partnership focused on protecting and restoring wild rice ecosystems in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Using historical documents from the University Archives, he will demonstrate the positive and negative impacts wild rice research at the University of Minnesota has had on tribal communities and ecosystems. Mike will also highlight tribal voices and describe a future where collaborative research supports tribal food sovereignty and healthy ecological and human communities.
