John Hartig is a Great Lakes scientist turned award-winning nonfiction writer working to inspire a conservation ethic. On Friday, January 13, at 7 PM he will share vignettes from his three recent books: Great Lakes Champions (Michigan State University Press, 2022 )is the story of 14 people who love the Great Lakes, stepped up to become leaders of watershed restoration efforts, and inspired others to follow; Rouge River Revived (University of Michigan Press, 2022) is the story of how citizens overcame apathy to clean up one of the most polluted rivers in the Great Lakes and become heralded as a national model of urban river restoration; and Waterfront Porch (Michigan State University Press, 2019) that is the story of how Detroit is building a new waterfront porch called the Detroit RiverWalk - the No. 1 riverwalk in the United States two years running - to help revitalize the city and region and to help foster a more sustainable future.
