It takes a while to scan reels of film because the machine scans only 2 frames per second.Check online to see how expensive it is to have a transfer company do it. I purchased my own scanner because I had 32 large reels of my father's home movies to scan and it would have cost thousands of dollars at their prices. Most companies charge around 40 cents per foot of film, so a small 50-foot reel would cost you $20. If you want any special editing or enhancements done they will charge much more. They even charge $10 or more just to put your movies onto a DVD!.
