Description
I own a contracting business specializing in a specific trade. I have made the decision to no longer hire inexperienced first year helpers/apprentices. I have discussed this with other tradesmen and some agree.
Paying someone $13.00/hour, plus benefits and paid holidays and they know absolutely NOTHING about the trade, is unacceptable. The option is, if it's not a work day, then there is no payroll for that day, this includes holidays.
If there isn't an adjustment in the operating expenses NYS demands of small / mid size businesses, then it very possible there will be a bottle neck of people looking to learn a trade.
In addition to a criminal background check, I have made up a very simple quiz that an applicant of questionable experience must take so I know the extent of their knowledge.
I think EVERY company that can, should leave NYS causing a financial strangulation. No jobs, no tax base, hopefully resulting in a total collapse of the economy.
