Description

I'm a classically trained drummer on orchestral snare, timpani, jazz drumset, rock drumset, country music, Christian bands of all kinds, and some Latin. I've played in dozens of bands over the years. I'm 49 years old. I moved here recently, so I don't have a lot of recordings available. My stuff is still in storage. I have my drumset and a Jeep to carry it to gigs. My kit is adaptable. There's a big and small bass drum, as well as all the drums in between. For me, less is usually more at gigs. I only like bringing what I absolutely need to bring. I also don't mind playing quietly in small venues with brushes or hot sticks. I also have a less fancy kit that I bring to places that I'm not confident about, security-wise. I'm not particularly interested in playing free gigs (with the exception of church bands, for which I would probably feel fine about volunteering my time, depending upon whether I enjoyed attending the church in general). This said, I'm not overly ambitious about earning $$ from paying gigs at bars, restaurants, and other types of venues. Playing out is fun for me. It's one of my hobbies. I used to sight read out of fake/real books; however, I'm a little rusty on sight reading. This said, I did it for years, a while back. I pick up songs very fast and remember them. I especially enjoy playing live and not being overly fastidious about practicing for gigs. I like to just wing it. I'm good at that. I feel it is important that other musicians recognize that, as a drummer, I don't need to practice the songs as much as they do. I'm not usually inclined to sit around at practices waiting for other musicians to work out their parts together. They need to do that first, and then call me if practicing for the gig is necessary. I'm not into leaving my good kit at a practice space at this point in time. I have a less valuable kit that I might consider leaving at a practice space. I can play all of the jazz standards after listening to the songs again once or twice. I'm fine with playing cover songs and I don't have time to sit around helping bands compose original tunes. This said, I'm very creative and I've helped many bands over the years with original material. In the past, I've played in jazz ensembles, big bands, drum and bugle corps, church choirs, church Christian bands, rock bands, Latin ensembles, country music bands, blues bands, and theater orchestras.
