The mushroom season in Southern California is short lived, so be ready when the rains come with some introductory skills and knowledge of the species to look for in the greater Los Angeles area. We'll discuss identification, tips and tricks to finding mushrooms in a dry Mediterranean climate, cooking techniques and a gourmet culinary mushroom tasting. Jess Starwood is a forager, herbalist, writer and photographer. She recently published "Mushroom Wanderland: A Forager's Guide to Finding, Identifying and Using More than 25 Wild Mushrooms" by Countryman Press. Over the years, Jess has foraged and consulted for several Michelin-starred restaurants in Los Angeles. She is the founder/owner of SunRaven Apothecary and The Wild Path School.
