Description

Join Friends of Edgewood docents for a free hike starting from the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve. Celebrate the winter solstice with a hike at Edgewood! We will take advantage of precious daylight on this shortest day of the year as we hike through oak woodlands and native grasslands. We'll enjoy winter delights like mosses, lichens, fungi, interesting seed heads, and more as we make frequent stops to take a closer look at the many plants and animals that call Edgewood home. Our hikes are moderately paced and about 3 miles. This hike is geared toward adults and older children interested in learning more about the extraordinary biodiversity at San Mateo County’s only natural preserve. Note that Edgewood’s many narrow trails cannot accommodate strollers. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Consider sunscreen, a hat, and snacks. Restrooms and water are available only at the Education Center or the picnic area near the Sylvan Trailhead. Please plan ahead. All participants, including children, must be registered individually and have approved the Covid-19 policy and liability waiver through Eventbrite. We will meet at the entrance to the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center. More details on where and when to meet will be emailed to participants before the event. Group size is very limited. Please cancel your reservation if you are unable to attend so others can have a chance to join us. Drop-ins will not be allowed for this event. We will still hike in light showers, but heavy rain cancels this event.
