Dear School of Rhetoric Students and Parents, The Senior Class of 2023 is pleased to announce the Annapolis Rhetoric School Formal Dinner and Dance, “A Heavenly Night”, will be on Saturday, March 18th, 2023. It will once again be held on campus at Annapolis Christian Academy. This year the Senior Class will be hosting Formal in The Café. This time-honored event is mandatory for all Rhetoric students in fulfillment of our vision to graduate young men and women who are “socially graceful and spiritually gracious.” Formal is a chaperoned, non-dating experience. It features a multiple-course meal, table conversation, and ballroom dancing. Although the evening is an engaging social event, the main focus is to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate the formal training that they receive at Annapolis. This instruction includes escorting a lady, being escorted by a gentleman, formal dress, table settings, dinner conversation, appropriate manners, etiquette, and ballroom dancing. Etiquette and dance training offers us an important opportunity to teach and reinforce important habits of respect, honor, kindness, dignity, nobility, and gracefulness in our students. As others see their civilized manners and excellent behavior, God will be glorified! To this end, staff members will assign a young lady to each gentleman. He is expected to use his training to serve as her humble, gracious, and chivalrous escort for the initial part of the evening. She, in turn, will accept and appreciate her escort with humble thankfulness and encouragement. Annapolis Christian Academy’s commitment to establishing an atmosphere that promotes excellence and beauty in all areas of life extends to this event. To provide a dignified, graceful, and noble atmosphere, high standards are expected of our ACA students, not only in behavior but in appearance as well. This is a black tie affair so please choose elegant attire that exhibits timeless class. Young men are responsible for purchasing or renting a traditional tuxedo for the evening. Attire for young ladies is an elegant, full-length formal gown. Guidelines will be provided in the next few weeks.
