Description

During this presentation, participants will learn about the history of racism in medicine and the present day impact of policies and structural racism on medical education and patient health. The presenter will share Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine’s journey to evaluate and address racism in their curriculum and the outcomes of that work. Participants will become familiar with the work of Dr. Camara Jones and apply her work to a framework for addressing racism in the learning environment. Throughout the presentation, anti-racism tools and resources will be shared that can be used by individuals and institutions to address areas commonly faced when addressing racism in medical education. Finally, participants will think about health inequities and the drivers of health and how inclusive and competency based practices to address racism in the learning environment can have a significant impact on future patient health.   Presentation presented by: Priya Garg , M.D. | Associate Dean of Medical Education at Boston University School of Medicine(BUSM)   Location Information:  Reception: 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. William N.
