MELANIE BRANDON, BIO She’s a Fashion Designer, Digital Marketer and Entrepreneur. But first, Melanie Brandon’s clothing designs radiate her warm and eclectic personal style. Melanie launched her first womenswear collection in 2000 at Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Historical Society to an overwhelming small crowd of over 1000 guests receiving her first standing ovation. Three years later in 2003, the designer presented her forth collection during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Adding the line “Von Alexandria”, in 2017 bought the attention of key fashion leaders in New York to this Philadelphia native. Very outgoing, Melanie prides herself on having great but modest taste with an element of eclectic beauty. Artistic inspiration is at the very core of the designer’s foundation. Melanie is the recipient of numerous awards for her women’s ready-to-wear collection. Most notably, the New York 2003 Indie Award for Best Designer of the Year, 2011 Indie Best Designer of Ready-to-Wear. Her jewelry designs have been praised by Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) and went as far as the Associated Press in 2008. In addition, prior to her time as our First Lady, Melanie honored Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden with awards that were accepted by a representative during her SUPERWOMAN Collection in 2009. In 2007, Melanie turned the media upside down as she introduced a line of jewelry made out of guns (1 oozie and 4 handguns) provided by the City of Philadelphia Sherriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s office quickly saw the immense impact on this designers’ vision and gift to the communities. In response to this, Det. Paris Washington named her project: Operation MWVA: Melting Weapons of Violence into Accessories. Melanie’s Jewelry is a concept born from the headline events of cyclic gun violence being experienced in our city streets neighborhoods and the world. Using the metal of confiscated weapons Melanie created a positive spin on the negative by creating jewelry and accessories. Melanie showcased to the world yet another positive transition from destruction to beauty. “Each piece of jewelry is a metaphoric symbol of healing that promotes victim and perpetrator awareness thus bringing communities together” says Melanie. Celebrities that have worn creations from the designer include, Alicia Raines, Michelle Williams, Olivia Jones and Stephanie Pratt from the TV show ‘The Hills’. The designer has been featured by Runway Magazine, Zink, Elle Girl Japan, Tank, Papercut, Bambi, and Elle Taiwan Magazines. Her clothes have also been personally styled by America’s Next Top Model Judge Nole Marin. She has been a participating designer for eleven Mercedes Benz Fashion Week/New York Fashion Week seasons. She has been interviewed by Women’s Wear Daily and showcased at the prestigious Scandinavian House on 5th Avenue. Melanie’s fashions are a hot commodity as written by Fashion Editor for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Elizabeth Wellington who writes, “she’s so close to fashion notoriety...for what she offers us to wear and also for how much she loves her City of Philadelphia.” CASTINGDear Models: Welcome to the Casting for Designer, Von Alexandria Fall/Winter 2023.
