Description

The Duke Armed Forces Association would be honored by your presence at their Annual Liberty Ball on April 14, 2023. This military ball is a special occasion that brings everyone together to celebrate the service of our past, present and future service members and share our traditions with other members of the Fuqua School of Business. This event is steeped in tradition and will feature a cocktail reception, dinner and program, dancing. You will have an opportunity to participate in toasts and other customs observed by each military branch, such as the grog ceremony and missing man table. What: Annual DAFA Liberty Ball Who: DAFA + ~400 best friends, faculty, and alums Where: The Rickhouse When: Friday 14 April 1800 to 2300 Cocktail Reception Hour from 6-6:45 p.m. The program will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Why: Celebrate our service members and the end of the school year FAQ Who is invited to this event? This event is open to all Fuqua MBAs and their partners/guests, Fuqua faculty and staff, and other Duke veterans. It is not open to any children or individuals under 21. What is the dress code? Military balls are formal events, as opposed to semi-formal. In other words, black tie encourage. DAFA members who are currently serving or those separated members who choose to do so may wear appropriate dress uniforms. Guests who are also currently serving should also wear their respective branch dress uniforms. Attendees may wear a tuxedo or nice suit with tie or a formal dress. Formal dresses are typically below the knee or floor length. Traditionally, any dresses knee-length and above are considered a cocktail dress or semi-formal and not considered formal. What is included in my ticket? This event will include an open wine and beer bar, in addition to cash liquor/cocktail bar. A coursed meal, including salad, dinner and dessert is also included during the ceremony and program part of the evening. Dancing to follow. Do I need to know military protocol? No, absolutely not! Protocol rules are for DAFA members. Everything for our guests is a matter of best practice, common sense, and tradition; you will be able to follow along. This is above all a celebration. Rules and guidelines are always meant to honor the military service. Traditions are a way for DAFA members to share with our classmates about where we came from and of those who went before us. What if I purchase a ticket and can no longer attend? Tickets are non-refundable, if you can no longer attend, you are responsible for selling your ticket(s) to someone else. Have another question? Please contact Brandon Quinn, Steve McCarthy, or Justin White
