Join Sankofa Village Arkansas and The Urban Wildlife Haven as we collectively make preparations to help us manage the winter months. This is a healing event for the Black community. Everyone will have the opportunity to create their own iron-on Sankofa Village Arkansas t-shirts. Please bring a lightly colored t-shirt to participate. Participants will be led through a guided meditation and movement-practice to help them: Determine their needs in order to feel supported and nourished through the colder months of the yearTo set intentions for what they'd like to invite into their lives in 2023To reconnect to their bodies through yogaThe second half of the workshop will be a teachback of how to craft infused honey and the health benefits, guided by the facilitators Kendra Danielle and Danielle M. Jones. At the end of the event, we will be raffling off a 30-minute sauna session, courtesy of Eden Salt Studio! More about the facilitators Danielle M Jones (she/her) is a weaver of Sankofa Village Arkansas, a forming intentional community and non-profit entity that transforms multigenerational community health through land stewardship & education for the purposes of housing affordability, wealth-building, and climate resiliency. We center Black healing, liberation & regeneration in this work. Danielle’s background is in experiential and culturally-responsive nature education, mindful practices and equity work. Her work proudly draws on the legacy of earth-connection from her ancestors. She is a graduate of Wilbur D. Mills HS. She holds a BA in Sociology and Environmental Studies from Rhodes College as well as a Sustainable Food Systems Graduate Certificate and M.S. in Leadership for Sustainability Education from Portland State University. She has been teaching yoga since 2019, and is a graduate of the the Bhakti Yoga Movement Center's 300hrs of yoga teacher training in Portland, OR. Kendra Danielle (she/her) is the quilter of The Urban Wildlife Haven, a startup business centering African descendant traditions, Indigenous perspectives, and practices that honor the sacred stewardship between people and the land . We offer nature-based education, host nature-centered gatherings and are a budding farm committed to educating people on how to decolonize their daily interactions with nature. A native of Little Rock, AR and a global nomad, Kendra is inspired by her desire to help heal the relationship between people and the natural environment. By trade she is a nature educator, urban farmer, apiarist, farm animal specialist, plant medicine apprentice, curator of healing spaces for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and artist. Her work aims to center the needs of underestimated communities' health and wholeness and to dismantle oppressive systems that divide communities and harm nature. She truly desires to carry on the traditions of her ancestors and quilt a more inclusive and caring society through her art and community work. Certified Nature Educator and Urban Environmental Educator through the Cornell University Civic Ecology Lab 2022.
