Body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) are a family of complex disorders, such as Hair Pulling Disorder (trichotillomania) and Skin Picking Disorder (dermatillomania/excoriation disorder), that cause an individual to repeatedly touch their hair and body in ways that result in physical damage. Although an estimated one in twenty people are affected by BFRBs, few clinicians are trained in treating these disorders.
Using strategies from the Comprehensive Behavioral Model (ComB) and ACT, this intermediate-level presentation will enable clinicians to develop strategies for addressing clients’ sensory, cognitive, affective, motoric, and environmental BFRB triggers.
This training will be led by Sophia Alapati, LCPC. Completion of this training is worth 1.5 CEU credits for counselors, social workers, and psychologists in the state of Maryland. This training will be offered in person.
