Description
Outdoor photography intro class in EPA led by photographer and Eagle Scout Darius Riley starting in an East Palo Alto neighborhood (The Gardens), followed by a 2 mile hike through the Baylands. This program will begin with a brief classroom session on outdoor photography and hiking, that will help participants capture the natural beauty of the area. Photographers of all skill levels are welcome. Negus In Nature (NIN) was created to provide a safe and healing space for BIPOC to remember that they are one with nature. Our mission is to challenge the status quo about where BIPOC belong and where we’re going. We seek to increase representation for BIPOC folks in outdoor activities by creating platforms that address holistic health, self-care, and environmental justice. Darius Riley is a photographer and filmmaker from East Palo Alto, CA. He obtained a B.A. in Visual Arts from Bowdoin College in 2020. Darius has had a passion for capturing moments since he first picked up a polaroid as a little boy. His interest grew while he was living in the dorms at Eastside College Prep as a 7th grader. A Residential Faculty member would let him play with his expensive Nikon camera when going on outdoor trips to Big Sur, Lake Tahoe, and Santa Cruz. He is known for capturing Bay Area culture and life, but he has traveled the globe telling stories and connecting with people using his camera. He has a documentary called Beton Je Krasny (Concrete is Beautiful) that was filmed in Prague in 2019 and will be releasing another project, “BIPOC Daddy the Movie” in the summer of 2022. Darius hopes to inspire individuals, especially youth, to pick up a camera and capture the world they want to see.
