Description

preservation across cultures. SESSION DESCRIPTIONS Preserving Herbs and Aromatics | Tuesday, December 6 | 2 PM What are the remedies that lie within your pantry? Just as individual herbs each have their own unique healing properties, each herb also carries stories in where and how it is grown. Let’s explore the lore of rosemary, sage, and thyme as we process these herbs through freezing, drying through wreath-making, and infusing oils. All materials provided. Pickling Autumnal Vegetables | Saturday, December 10 at 2 PM Once a necessity to store food through the winter, pickling is now a hobby that invites us to spend time with our abundant harvest to help preserve the joy and health benefits that farm-fresh produce gives us. Join us in the Greenhouse Education Center to call in past generations from your own familial lineage to share stories of how members of your families or ancestral lineage kept food traditions alive and thriving in times of scarcity. Then, join us in collectively bottling the autumnal vegetables lesser known to the pickle world; onions and squash. All materials provided. Saving Our Soups | Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30 PM Gather with us in the kitchen to stew and simmer body-warming soup. Together we’ll cook up a sweet potato soup to enjoy together and share our bounty with nearby Harlem community in the Community Fridge. Jar up your own soup to bring home to freeze for an easy meal later in the month. All materials provided.
