Description

Not only is Michele D’Aprix the only American woman winemaker in Bordeaux; she also works with one of Bordeaux’s most brilliant oenologists, Stephane Derenoncourt. And though she lives in the town of Saint-Emilion, she and a few of the friends whose wines she represents, makes very fairly priced, top-quality wines from the Right Bank’s top satellite appellations. Plus perhaps our favorite wines from her are a red, white and rosé from the superb Rhone Valley appellation of Costieres de Nimes. (We’ve been absolutely crushing the Roussanne-based white lately.) Because both Michele and her wines are so fascinating and engaging, we are going to have her do her tasting seminar style. She will start promptly at 6:00 and pour and discuss each wine in turn. This tasting is Wednesday, December 14th, at 6:00. Tickets are only $15 in advance or $25 the day of. Here’s what Michele will be presenting: 2021 Pierre Angulaire Bordeaux Blanc reg. $20 / $16.99 sale Wonderfully fresh and tasty dry white Bordeaux. 2021 Maz Caz Blanc reg. $20 / $16.99 sale This is her delightful Costieres de Nimes white, a blend of 51% Roussanne and 49% Grenache Blanc. Michele’s college roommate does the really cool label art: here an oyster (which this wine would be perfect with). 2021 Mas Caz Rosé reg. $20 / $16.99 sale Grenache and Syrah. 2015 Chateau des Fougeres Graves reg. $40 / $29.99 sale We love red Graves – and this one, made under Derenoncourt’s direction, is stellar. 2016 Pentimento Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux reg. $35 / $24.99 sale This is her basically “budget Pomerol” – 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc grown on clay and limestone. And in an amazing vintage for the Right Bank. 2019 Simon Blanchard Montagne-St.-Emilion Village reg. $40 / $32.50 sale Vinous says: Simon Blanchard is among the brighter lights of Bordeaux’s New Wave. Collectors take note: Incredibly small quantities are produced, and fewer still imported to the United States. Surely better than any St-Emilion at this price. Organic, too. 2019 Simon Blanchard Montagne-St.-Emilion Guitard reg. $60 / $49.99 sale The luxury cuvee. A fantastic finale.
