Job description Parks Maintenance Worker Starting at $20 per hour Full-time Position with Benefits Work Schedule Mon -Friday. Some weekends Job Summary: Under close supervision, assists in turf maintenance, planting and cultivating of trees, flowers, and shrubs, and custodial maintenance of park buildings, grounds, and equipment; plants, fertilizes and maintains grass, shrubs and trees; and helps prepare parks and fields for special events. Essential Job Functions: The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks. Performs routine maintenance of grass, shrubs and trees in the park areas. Waters and feeds grass and plants or a regular schedule; operates a variety of mechanical mowing and weed eating equipment to cut and trim grass areas; prunes and feeds trees and shrubs; performs preventive maintenance on equipment. Cleans parks, ball fields, gutters, building culverts, parking lots and areas surrounding public facilities; removes debris and clears undergrowth in the park areas. Assists in preparing park areas for special events; picks up trash and makes sure that the areas are clean; transports and sets up equipment as appropriate to the event; maintains and operates the holiday decorations provided by the City. Assists in maintaining swimming pool; performs routine maintenance and makes basic repairs to pool and filtering equipment. Patches roads and pavement areas within the parks and parking lots; sweeps streets, parking lots and sidewalks to make recreation areas clean and accessible to the public. Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the practices, tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair of parks, grounds and other facilities. Knowledge of safety practices to be used on the job. Knowledge of landscaping equipment and basic repair. Knowledge of City policies and procedures Skill in performing ground maintenance and landscaping tasks. Skill in performing heavy manual labor for extended periods of time. Education and Experience High School diploma or GED, and one (1) year of experience in landscape or facilities maintenance. State of Colorado driver’s license. Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements: Work is performed in the outdoors in the repair and maintenance of parks and facilities; hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of mechanical equipment. Frequently requires sitting, talking and hearing; frequently requires walking and using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. Requires lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds; requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Equipment and Tools Utilized: Spades, picks, shovels, hoes, and rakes and other hand gardening tools, and lawn mowers, weed eaters and other power gardening equipment.
