Marco Montez stops in The Drawing Room on Sunday, December 11th from 11-2pm to offer you samples of TRAVESSIA wines from his winery and vineyard in the Tras-Os-Montes region of Portugal. Marco's wines are now available for purchase at The Drawing Room. If Marco's name sounds familiar, not only is he the winemaker behind Travessia, he's also the head winemaker at Westport Rivers, and previously owned Travessia Urban Winery right here in New Bedford. We're delighted to carry Marco's wine and to welcome him to The Drawing Room for this tasting! Stop in for a taste while you work on your Christmas shopping. About Marco Montez & Travessia Wines Winemaker and owner Marco Montez started his journey in the world of wine as a child living in a small village in the Tras-Os-Montes region of Portugal. Every September he would help his family and neighbors with the grape harvest. Wines were made in an artisan manner to be consumed by family and friends. Grape stomping with one’s feet was not a romantic or cool way to crush grapes, it was the only way. Located in the northeastern corner of Portugal, the region of Trás-os-Montes is cut off from the ocean by high mountains and experiences a dramatic continental climate of hot summers and cold winters. The grapes grown by the Montez family since the 1970’s show incredible consistency in their balance, powerful aromatics, and remarkable ability to pair wonderfully with a variety of dishes. Marco lives right here in New England but travels "home” often including to harvest and make wine at his family's estate every year. Small production wines from a sustainably farmed vineyard.
