Pre and post-course materials are to be completed 100% to obtain credit for this course. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Course Description: Research in the field of behavioral health continues to expand in both quantity and quality. To successfully treat pain in patients, a therapist must have a thorough understanding of how healthcare behaviors work.The purpose of this course is to educate physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in motivational interviewing, presentation and modification of behavior and its implications in treatment. The course will update participants on current and relevant literature to help implement behavioral change strategies during evaluation, patient education, plan of care development, and even after discharge. The breakouts sessions will consist of theoretically application strategies through role playing, case studies, to practice application throughout plan of care based on patient presentation. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION: 7 hours total: 1hour allocated to pre-reading from journals of education and learning as calculated by the Mergener formula and 6hours allocated to didactic and lab techniques. No manual techniques requiring supervision will be conducted in this course. Method of instruction 70% lecture and participation in clinical concepts, work in group for logical progression and problem solving. 30% Lab including: application of theory to case studies, motivational interviewing with peer supervision and feedback. INTENDED PARTICIPANTS: PT Solutions clinical employees to include Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants.
