Description

Camellias make wonderful additions to a Northwest Florida landscape and will flower in the winter when few other plants are blooming. By choosing the appropriate cultivars of camellias, a gardener can actually have flowers from October through Early April. The history of camellias, the different species that grow well in the Florida Panhandle, and specific cultivars that you might want to add to your garden will be discussed. In addition, care for camellias in the landscape and the showing of camellias will be covered. Jody Wood-Putnam has been a Master Gardener Volunteer with UF/IFAS Extension Bay County since 2004. She has been growing camellias for over 40 years and has an impressive collection of over 150 different camellia species, hybrids, and cultivars in her Northwest Florida landscape! Jody is an engaging speaker who shares her passion for plants by teaching for UF/IFAS Extension and GCSC Education Encore. The University of Florida is committed to providing universal access to all of our events. For disability accommodations such as sign language interpreters and listening devices, please contact Julie McConnell, ([email protected], 850-248-8091) at least 10 business days in advance. Advance notice is necessary to arrange for some accessibility needs.
