Description

Surviving the toddler years can be downright exhausting at times. We all know their favorite word is “no” and power struggles abound. But why is that? Toddlers are at the first developmental stage where they realize they have some control and independence. Let’s talk about how this leads to defiance (from an adult perspective. I promise cute little Cameron isn’t really out to get you!) Typically misbehavior is showing a skill that is missing from the child's emotional toolkit. After we recognize the missing tools, we will talk about several approaches you can use to gain cooperation from your littles. **My name is Samantha Kinnear. I am currently a Psychology student, with 12 years experience in child development. I have worked with all ages, from infancy to afterschool care, but I always gravitated toward the toddler classes. In my years in the childcare field, I prioritized learning best practice and communicating well with parents. I have also been able to put these tools into practice with my own children, aged 3, 12, and 13. My techniques are a melding of Erikson’s stages of development, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, gentle or respectful parenting, and my own experiences with hundreds of children over the past decade. I’m excited to share the tools that have worked for me, allowing me to raise children I'm proud of and to make my life a little easier. I’m confident they will do the same for you!**
