When it comes to safe and engaging places for those who are Intellectual and Developmental Delayed (I/DD) and those with other cognitive disabilities the options in my area of Greensboro, NC are nonexistent. The Missing Piece will give the parents of cognitive delayed and disabled children a place to play, learn and explore that includes an inclusive condition based sensory environment. As a parent of a special needs child I often felt that my child was ridiculed and made fun of in public play places because she played “like a baby”, or I felt that she would get hurt playing on some of the equipment within facilities. This in turn limited me to only being able to take her to public kid parks (indoors and outdoors) at specific times when the presence of other children were limited. By creating an indoor play area with soft toys, condition appropriate playground areas, and wheel chair inclusive activities, The Missing Piece will be able to create an inclusive and safe environment for the overlooked population of special needs children. We will provide a supervised interactive kids play space that provides educational entertainment for (I/DD) children, while allowing a relaxing environment for parents. In addition to open play areas we would also like to offer special needs drop off care. The Missing Piece is the MISSING PIECE of a lot of communities, Lets make a difference together!
